Itinerary

Day1

Arrival in Dushanbe

Arrival in Dushanbe. Transfer to hotel. Visit to Gurminj Museum of traditional musical instruments and Museum of Antiquities. After lunch driving to countryside to Hissar district to see the Hissar Fortress (18th c-26entury) which is located 30 km west of Dushanbe. Beside the fortress there are two madrasahs (18th and 19th centuries) and one mausoleum (16th century). The next day we will go to Gorge of Varzob. Although the Valley is not famous for architectural heritage, it opens up a breathtaking view of the nature. Varzob Valley is a famous leisure spot among residents nearby and expats for its numerous recreational and picnic areas. Enjoying the valley. Coming back to Dushanbe, overnight in hotel. B/L/D.

Day2

Dushanbe to Qalai Khumb (370 km – 5 -6 hours drive)

Departure to Pamir via Kulob region (900m). Passing to Kalaikhum we will see the scenery and the people changing. Local people here are called Pamiris with their own languages and varied culture and traditions. The culture and traditions in Pamirs differs as you go further and further and you can observe the preserved culture and style of living. Kalaikhum is located on the Panj River, a major tributary of the famous Amu Darya (Oxus) River. Arrival in Qalai Khumb, overnight in Guesthouse. B/L/D.

Day3

Qalai Khumb to Jiezew (205 km, 6 hours’ drive and 3 hours hike)

Driving along the Panj river (Afghan border), enjoying the nice view, Arrival in Rushan, having lunch and detour to Bartang valley up to Giezev bridge. Gisev village is one of the ecological villages in the Pamirs that still has neither vehicle road not electrical cabling. Some houses use solar energy or small generators. The entire valley has only about 15 houses. This valley has many small beautiful lakes, different varieties of birds and herbs and few groves and is very popular for tourists. We will cross the Bartang river through wooden bridge. Further we begin the trek to Gisev village (7 km). Homestay. B/L/D. Next day we will hike further to the valley and to the other lake. Enjoying the wild forest and the beautiful landscape. Overnight in upper small settlement in homestay. B/L/D

Day4

Jiezew to Khorog (3 hours hike and 2 hours drive, 90 km)

We will descent to the main road and drive to Khorog. The road will follow near Panj River. Khorog is the administrative centre of the Pamir region, dramatically set deep in the valley at the confluence of the Panj and Gunt rivers and boxed in by the mountain peaks. Visit, to the Ethnographical Museum, Botanical Garden (one of the highest in the world). Accommodation in hotel. B/L/D

Day5

Khorog to Ishkoshim (116 km, 3-4 hours’ drive)

Driving from Khorog to Ishakhsim of Afghanistan. Not far from Khorog (45 km) there is the famous Mineral Hot Spring-Garm Chashma and Ruby Mines of Khuhi Lal (where Badakhshani rubies were mined as early as 14th century). The road to Ishkashim is smooth journey. Ishkashim is a small town at the mouth of the Wakhan corridor, where the 19th century Great Game ended. Continuing up northwards we will see amazing views of the Pamirs to the left and the Hindu Kush to the right; a number of peaks in view are above 6,000m. If we are lucky and we arrive to Ishkashim on Saturday, we will be able to visit the Crosse border Tajik-Afghan market on the Afghan side. Cross the border to Afghan Ishkashim. Overnight in Homestay. B/L/D

Day6

Ishkashim to Langar (115 km, 7-8 hours drive)

Drive from Ishkashim to Langar. On the way we will visit the Kah-Kaha in Namadgut one of the oldest fortress on the Silk Road, museum a local scholar, theologian, poet and traveler Sufi Muborak-Kadami Vakhani, who died in 1910. There is a stone pillar with a hole near his house, which he used to calculate a solar calendar. His house is decorated with inscriptions and decorations made by the scholar. On the way we will visit Buddhist Stupa in Vrang, sacred hot springs of Bibi Fatima Zahra, ruins of Yamchun fortress (IV-III B.C.) that once guarded Pamir branch of the Great Silk Road. Home stay. Day7

Langar to BULUNKUL Murgab (290 km, 5-6 hours drive)

After breakfast we will leave the spectacular views of Afghanistan, with the ice-capped summit of the Wakhan Range, and the Pamir River and will cross Khargushi pass. On the way we will visit an old color paintings in grot Shakhty and if the weather is clear enough, we will head up to the Shorbulak Observatory, from where we can see the Muztag Ata and Kongur Peaks, which are part of the Khun Lun Range (located in China). Murgab is a quiet town with an only bazaar of the High Pamir region where Kyrgyz’s and Tajiks live. We will pay a visit to handicraft shop in “Yak House”. City tour in Murgab. Overnight in Hotel. B/L/D

Day8

Langar to Bulunkul - Murgab (277 km, 5-6 hours drive)

Day9

Murgab to Ghudara

This day Oliver will take the car and drive from Murgab through Akbaital Pass and then detour to GHudara village, Bartang valley. Overnight in Homestay

Day10

Kuhdara to Siponj (100km)

Driving from Gudara to Siponj village down to Bartang valley. Arrival in Sponj village. Walking around the village. Visiting the petroglyphs sites. Overnight in Home stay.

Day11

Siponj to Qalai Khumb (222 km) 5-6 hours drive

Driving from Siponj to Kalaikhum. Arrival in Qalai Khumb. Overnight in guesthouse.

Day12

Qalai Khumb to Dushanbe (270 km) 7,8 hour drive

This morning we will take driving other way – through Khoburabad pass (3252m) (Obigarm and Tavildara regions) on the way we will take a Photo stop and will enjoy the beautiful landscape stuning view of the Khaburbad pass. Arrival in Dushanbe the capital of Tajikistan. Overnight in Hotel. B/L/D

Day13

Flight home

Transfer to airport. Flight Home
