Itinerary

Day1

Arrival in Dushanbe (60km)

Arrival in Dushanbe. Transfer to hotel. After lunch driving to countryside to Hissar district to see the Hissar Fortress (18th c-26entury) which is located 30 km west of Dushanbe. Beside the fortress there are two madrasahs (18th and 19th centuries) and one mausoleum (16th century). Coming back to Dushanbe, overnight in hotel. B/L/D.

Day2

Dushanbe to Qalai Khumb (through Kulob) (371 km – 7-8 hours’ drive)

Departure to Pamir via Kulob region (900m). Passing to Qalai Khumb we will see the scenery and the people changing. Local people here are called Pamirs with their own languages and varied culture and traditions. The culture and traditions in Pamirs differ as you go further and further and you can observe the preserved culture and style of living. Qalai Khumb is located on the Panj river, a major tributary of the famous Amu-Darya (Oxus) river. Arrival in Qalai Khumb, overnight in Guesthouse. B/L/D.

Day3

Qalai Khumb to Khuf valley (210 km, 6-7 hours’ drive and)

Driving along the Panj river (Afghan border), enjoying the nice view, Arrival in Rushan, having lunch and after lunch drive to Pastkhuf village and taking detour to Khuf valley for 9 km. Arrival in Khuf, acclimatization. Resting. Accommodation in Homestay. B/L/D

Day4

Khuf valley to Khorog (2 hours hike and 2 hours’ drive, 90 km)

After breakfast we will hike to the upper village, to meet local people along and further to the valley. Enjoying the wild forest and the beautiful landscape. After we will descent back to the cars and drive to Khorog. The road will follow near Panj river. Khorog is the administrative center of the Pamir region, dramatically set deep in the valley at the confluence of the Panj and Gund rivers and boxed in by the mountain peaks. Visit the Botanical Garden (one of the highest in the world). Accommodation in hotel. B/L/D

Day5

Khorog to Ishkoshim - (6 hours’ drive, 116 km)

Driving from Khorog to Ishkoshim. Not far from Khorog (45 km) there is the famous Mineral Hot Spring-(Garm Chashma) and Ruby Mines of Kuhi Lal (where Badakhshani rubies were mined as early as 14th century). The road to Ishkashim is smooth journey. Ishkashim is a small town at the mouth of the Wakhan corridor, where the 19th century Great Game ended. Overnight in Ishkoshim. B/L/D.

Day6

Ishkoshim to Langar (6 hours’ drive, 120 km)

After having breakfast in Ishkashim we continue up northwards and enjoy an amazing view of the Pamirs to the left and the Hindu Kush to the right; several peaks in view are above 6,000m. On the way we will visit the Qah-Qaha in Namadgut village one of the oldest fortresses on the Silk Road, museum of a local scholar, theologian, poet and traveler, Sufi Muborak Qadami Vakhoni, who died in 1910. There is a stone pillar with a hole near his house, which he used to calculate a solar calendar. His house is decorated with inscriptions and decorations made by the scholar. On the way we will visit Buddhist Stupa in Vrang, sacred hot springs of Bibi Fotima Zahro, and ruins of Yamchun fortress (IV-III B.C.) that once guarded Pamir branch of the Great Silk Road. Home stay. Arrival in Langar. B/L/D.

Day7

Langar to Bulunkul (131 km, 7 hours’ drive with stops)

After breakfast we will leave the spectacular views of Afghanistan, with the ice-capped summit of the Wakhan Range, and the Pamir River and will cross Khargushi pass (4.286m). Picnic on the road. In the afternoon we will be in Bulunkul. We can have walk in the village, to the Bulunkul lake Home stay. B/L/D.

Day8

Bulunkul to Murgab (135 km, 5-6 hours’ drive)

After breakfast we will go to Yashilkul viewpoint then come back to the M41 and drive to Murgab. The guest will enjoy the stunning view of the lake and surrounded mountains. Murgab is a quiet town with an only bazaar of the High Pamir region where Kyrgyz’s and Tajiks live. City tour in Murgab. Overnight in Hotel. B/L/D

Day9

Murgab to Rang-kul – Qara-kul (170 km – 7-8 hours’ drive)

Driving from Murgab to Rankul and then to Qara-kul. This day the views of mountains and glaciers along the way are simply breath-taking as the road takes us to the AK Baital Pass (The White Horse Pass 4655m). This is the highest pass in the former USSR. This is indeed the “The Roof of the World” and the hidden site in this expanse of arid landscape is the stunning Qara-kul Lake, created millions of years ago by a meteorite and noted as one of the most geologically fascinating places on earth. Accommodation in Homestay. B/L/D

Day10

Qara-kul – Jalang to Kuhdara (200 km- 7-8 hours’ drive)

The track then turns west off the M41 Pamir Highway across the lonely high-altitude desert. This day we will have a detour to the pasture called Jalang where the Kyrgyz nomads come during the summertime with the cattle, especially Yaks. After enjoying the Jalang we will drive through the Kukjar pass (3800) and go long the Tanimas river. Late in the afternoon we will reach the village of Kuhdara, the most remote inhabited place in the Bartang valley. If time lets, we will drive to Savnob, if not we stay in Kuhdara. Accommodation in Homestay. B/L/D

Day11

Kuhdara to Jizez (145 km – 3-4 hours’ drive and 7 km hike for 2 hours)

Driving along the Bartang valley down, enjoying the nice view, Arrival in Jizev bridge, and leaving the car by pedestrian bridge and hike to majestic Jizev valley. Jizev village is one of the ecological villages in the Pamirs that still has neither vehicle road not electrical cabling. Some houses use solar energy or small generators. The entire valley has only about 15 houses. This valley has many small, beautiful lakes, different varieties of birds and herbs and few groves and is very popular for tourists. We will cross the Bartang river through wooden bridge. Further we begin the trek to Jizev village (7 km). Homestay.

Day12

Jizew to Qalai Khumb (hike for 1, hour and 200 km drive for 6-7 hours)

In the morning after breakfast, we will descent the Jizev valley to the bridge, where the cars would be waiting for us, having lunch in Rushan district center and then drive to Kalaikhum. Drive along the Panj river that is the border line between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Accommodation in Homestay. B/L/D

Day13

Qalai Khumb to Dushanbe (through Obigarm-Tavildara) (250km, 6 -7 hours)

The last day of the tour, trip back to Duschanbe through the other way. Accommodation in Homestay. B/L/D
